Determination of detailed topography, vertical and horizontal small deformations (millimeters and first centimeters) of Earth surface using the interferometer processing of images obtained with the help of a radar with synthetic antenna (SAR) of ERS and ENVISAT spacecraft to reveal preliminary signs of geodynamic activity. Synchronous comparison of images from SAR and ENVISAT with measurements of atmos-pheric and sea surface parameters.

Innovative Aspect and Main Advantages

Application of the latest interferometer method (Greku R.Kh., Greku T.R. Determination of Hazardous Subsidence in the Mining Region of Ukraine with the ERS SAR Interferometry, Proceedings of the 31st International Sympo-sium on Remote Sensing of Environment, Global Monitoring for Sustainability and Secu-rity, 20-24 May, 2005, Saint Petersburg, Russia, CD-ROM) allows to create a digital model of altitudes and it evolution in time. The synchronous observations, which will allow to get new knowledge to improve revealing of differences between oil spills and similar phe-nomena are also new in the project.

Areas of Application

The main directions of investigations will be the following: assessment of vulnerability of the re-gions and infrastructure systems subjected to geological risk by determination of detailed to-pography and small motions of Earth surface caused by natural exogenic processes (slides) and by technogenic factors (subsidences in the min-ing regions and in the Metro zones of urban ar-eas). Extension of the possibilities of observation (model possibilities) for the users and agencies responsible for the monitoring of oil spills on the sea routes of western region of the North Sea and in the regions of Cara Sea and the Black Sea. The obtained results will be taken into consid-eration in creating the Sich-3-P space system of Earth radar sensing.
