Investigation Of Seismic Activity Based On Geophysical Spacecraft Data

Description

Inhomogeneities and anomalies in the structures of Earth gravitational and magnetic fields may testify to earthquake precursors. With the help of laser radar stations, it is intended to perform remote trajectory measurements of geophysical micro satellite orbital parameters and to calculate Earth gravitational fields parameters on their basis. For this purpose, corner reflectors and a three-axis accelerometer will be installed on micro satellite board to take into account the action of non-gravitational disturbances on SC. The measurement of Earth magnetic field parameters is ensured with the help of scientific instrumentation accommodated on micro satellite board, including:

  • a three-component ac magnetometer intended to measure quasi-constant magnetic field vector;
  • a wave probe intended to measure magnetic field fluctuations, electric current density, and electric potential in ionospheric plasma.

The obtained data allow to perform a comprehensive analysis of information on the changes of geophysical fields caused by Earth seismic activity in order to determine reliable earthquake precursors.

Innovative Aspect and Main Advantages

The novelty of the project consists in the comprehensive use of the data of gravitational and magnetic fields satellite measurements and in the comprehensive analysis of obtained data with the purpose of determining reliable earthquake precursors.

Areas of Application

Upon project implementation, a system of space monitoring of Earth geophysical fields, of seismic activity prediction and warning on its hazardous manifestations will be created.
