Institute of Chemical Problems, ANAS

General Information

Institute of Chemical Problems (ICP) was founded in 2002. It was based on Azerbaijan branch of the Institute of Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (founded in 1935 and then named as The Institute of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry) and on the Institute of Theoretical Problems of Chemical Technology, founded in 1965.

There are 21 laboratories, 13 sectors, 3 groups and 2 departments at the Institute. The Institute’s staff consists of 251 scientists including Corresponding Members of ANAS, Doctors of Science and PhDs.

Institute’s Focus

Over the years, ICP has played an important role in basic and applied research in the interests of chemical and metallurgical industries, also introduction of the new environmental and effective technological processes.

Institute’s areas of core competencies include the following:

  • Investigation of oxidizing aluminum alloys by low – frequency current impulses;
  • Development scientific foundations of complex reprocessing of the mineral resources of Azerbaijan Republic (sulfide polymetallic ore, alunite ore, clays of the various composition) and improvement of the existing technological processes;
  • Suggestion the methods of the composition of the nonsteady kinetic models of the different catalytic processes proceeding with the variable activity of the catalysts, also the high efficient polyfunctional zeolite catalysts for the multistage reactions of oxidative conversion of low molecular paraffin and olefin hydrocarbons and studying kinetics and mechanism of these reactions.

Among other important areas of research in chemistry are:

  • Catalysis over zeolites and semiconducters;
  • Physicochemical investigation of chalcogenides;
  • Electrochemistry of metals and alloys;
  • Structural chemistry;
  • Analytical chemistry;
  • Sorption processes;
  • Polymer sorbents and catalysts;
  • Chemistry of rare elements;
  • Modeling of monooxygenase reactions.

Valuable Technology Offerings

  • Research on development of the hydrogen compact storage system design;
  • Synthesis of metal-polimer complexes and using its in biosensors for determining formaldehyde.

Scientific Cooperation and Technology Transfer

ICP collaborates with a number of Academic Institutions in Asia, Europe and America (Russia, United Kingdom, USA, The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Korea, etc.):
