Direct-flow micro hydro on high-coercive magnets

Description

Micro-hydro is designed to produce electric power from potential energy of small streams, water flows and technological reservoirs with water head of 2 to 6 meters, a capacity of 1 to 12 kW, and water discharge 0.13-0.23 m/s.

This power plant is an autonomous environment-friendly energy source that does not require constant presence of maintenance personnel.

The main units of micro-hydro are: hydro-turbine, electrogenerator, electronic voltage and frequency regulator. The power-producing plant is a shaft-free DC propeller hydro turbine which impeller rim is equipped with rare-earth permanent magnets Nd-Fe-B. The electronic voltage and frequency regulator is designed to obtain three-phase voltage Uph = 220 V at the frequency of 50-60 Hz.

Innovative Aspect and Main Advantages

Comparison of parameters of the designed Micro-hydro and serially manufactured Tomik (Turboatom, Kharkov) with close parameters is given in the table.

Advantages:

  • Weight reduction by two times and considerable size reduction result in considerable saving of steel;
  • 10-20% efficiency increase;
  • High mobility;
  • Low transportation costs.

Areas of Application

Hydro-energy objects, water-supply and drainage systems of industrial enterprises, small and medium size farms located in areas remote from power lines.


Stage of Development

Pilot model went through bench tests at the Institute of Mechanical Engineering Problems (Kharkov). At the moment natural and resource tests are being conducted in Pre-Elbrus area (Russia).
