Anodes for the Intensification of Manganese Dioxide Production

Description

Up to now in the industrial electrosynthesis of manganese dioxide anodes on titanium based materials are used. The main drawback of these electrodes is their tendency to passivation that causes the technological regime disruption, the necessity of anode activation (by chemical, electrochemical, mechanical and thermal methods), impairment of technical economic indexes.

The several series of anodes based on titanium and dielectric materials are proposed:

  • Titanium anodes are constructed by methods of macro and micro-galvanic couples;
  • Anodes with the active sections distributed on the chemical and heatproof dielectric surfaces uniformly.

Innovative Aspect and Main Advantages

The new models of anodes have been designed up. They are distinguished by an increase in the quality of the final product and improvement of technological process of manganese dioxide production:

  • Anodes are not passivated at current density in the range 100-8500 A/m2 and can be used many times;
  • Electrodes can be used for producing of compact and dispersive manganese dioxide;
  • Obtaining manganese dioxide of γ-modification and contains 90-93% of the main product is reproducible;
  • In the electrosynthesis of compact manganese dioxide at high (200-300 A/m2) current density a high quality product may be received on these anodes, if their technical parameters and electrolysis conditions are chosen correctly;
  • On electrodes made on the basics of dielectric can be produced dioxide manganese in the form of tablets that sufficiently simplifies the technological scheme (the operation of bath disconnection, electrode unloading, product breaking and grinding from electrode are eliminated) from electrolysis stage up to marketable product.

The anodes were tested in laboratory and large-scale condition; covered by patents of Georgia:
