New Method of Tumor Diagnosis and Therapy

Description

Today, the number of patients with cancer of various forms and with leukemia is not decreasing in spite of introduction of new methods of diagnostics and treatment with modern anticancerogenic preparations – cytostatics, which kill not only tumor cells, but healthy cells as well.

We proposed a new method of diagnostics and a new approach in technology of treatment to prevent the above-mentioned negative effect. Besides, this is sufficiently cheaper than the treatment with cytostatics and can be used repeatedly.

The proposed approach significantly increases the efficiency of the photodynamic therapy. It includes the introduction of non-toxic compounds into the cells (organism): bioregulator and porphyrin (which exclusively bind to the rare and unique DNA sites) with the following irradiation by non- ionizing lowintensive laser. Our preliminary experimental data enables us to suggest that 10 seances are needed for the acute lymphoblast leukemia remission.

The diagnosis includes two new tests: (a) early diagnostics of tumor and leukemia, and (b) diagnostics of difficult to differentiate cases of leukemia. The first diagnostics is based on the determination of thermodynamic parameters of six main blood plasma proteins of patients with tumor and leukemia, by the differential scanning microcalorimeter (DSC). The second one is based on detection of blood lymphocyte apoptosis of patients with leukemia on the basis of evaluation of chromatin condensation degree in cell nuclei using the fluorescent microscope.

This DSC is an improved model of the DSC created at the Institute of Physics for the first time in the world (Privalov, Monaselidze). The sensitivity of the modified DSC is 0.1 mW, the temperature range of measurements is 2-1500C, and the vessel volume is 0.2 cm3. The calculation of heating Qd (denaturation heat) and Td (denaturation temperature) is carried out by the software developed by us, and the deconvolution of curves is conducted using the program package Origin 6.0 (MicrocalTM Softwate, Inc.).

Innovative Aspect and Main Advantages

  1. This method is significantly cheaper than NMR tomography.
  2. Highly skilled specialists are not needed for carrying out the measurements.
  3. The diagnosis is given by a computer.
  4. The time of testing is 90 min.
