Electrical explosion of wire by powerful current pulse is the convenient instrument for fundamental investigations of different physical phenomena at high energy densities. One should especially single out the wire explosion in liquid when the chemical reaction takes place between the metal and liquid in which the explosion happened.

There are many technical applications of electrical explosion of wire; in particular, for producing pulse pressure at wire explosion in liquid, for synthesis of very fine nanodimensional powders, etc.

At wire explosion in water, as a rule, metal oxides are formed and a large amount of heat is liberated - these reactions are exothermic.

Aluminum, titanium wires with different diameters and with the length of 23 cm were exploded in water. Any metal, when exploded, enters into chemical reaction with water. These reactions are exothermal and a great amount of heat is released. This heat is enough for thermal ionization of the products of chemical reaction. A dense plasma is formed, which, when polarized, charges the capacitor battery up to the voltage being equal or, in some cases, more than the voltage, up to which the capacitor battery was charged initially. Thus, at the explosion of wire in water, in the volume where the wire was exploded, the energy is released, which, as it was showed by the experiments, exceeds the energy accumulated in capacitor battery before explosion (at the initial moment) one and half times, and sometimes even twice and more.

Following from this, the problem is to extract this energy, in particular, to charge the other external capacitor with this energy. This will allow to use the electric energy accumulated in external capacitor. The water remained after the explosion of wire, does not contain harmful impurities and can be used repeatedly.

Innovative Aspect and Main Advantages

The scheme of charging the external capacitor by the capacitor C charged as a result of wire explosion in water is shown below. The experiments were carried out on charging the uncharged capacitor by capacitor charged according to the shown scheme. It became possible to transfer 60% of the energy of charged capacitor to the uncharged one. This can be explained by the fact that the capacitor battery – the main and the external for charging – consists of about 50 capacitors commutated by copper bars. At the charging current of about 10kA, the Ohm losses are great. Losses are not only in bars but also in connectors of bars and capacitors. The way out is to use one capacitor for the chain of explosions of wire and the other, the external one – for charging with the energy formed as a result of explosion of wire in water.

There are no sources of this type. The fact is that electrical energy obtained by this method will be cheaper than by any method of electrical energy.
