SHS-Filter Developed by Self-Propagating High-Temperature Synthesis (SHS)


By Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis (SHS) method at atmospheric pressure from cheap oxides and a metal-restoration by two stages the filter for water treating and gases has been developed.

Innovative Aspect and Main Advantages

At the expense of technological features of obtaining of SHS - filter, also possibility of changing of parity and dispersion of initial components, provides different technical characteristics of the materials. Products can be received in the form of cylinders, plugs (Fig.1), etc., with the minimum expenses for the electric power and the equipment. The cost price of a unit of production is 5 times cheaper in comparison with technology of powder metallurgy.

Technical characteristics SHS of the filter:

  1. System Cr -B – Al-O + Ag (0,5-1 %);
  2. Total Porosity ( П , % ) - 55 – 60;
  3. Throughput Ability ( q, л/мин . см2 ) at pressure of water 0,05-0,1 МПа - 0,2 – 0,4;
  4. Diameter of pores dп max, micron - 45;
  5. Heatresistance - 1300 – 1400оС;
  6. Thermal stability (more than 30 cycles) - from 1000оС, down to 20оС in water;
  7. Gas permeability (depending on a parity and dispersion of components) - ∼ 0 – 400 standard units.

Areas of Application

The obtained materials and products can find application as filters for water treating and gases.

Stage of Development

SHS- filter for the water treating is available for testing, has cylindrical shape. On Fig.2 it is shown the cylindrical filtering material.
