Method of fine chemical purification of graphite up to 9.99 – 99.95% carbon content in the resulting product
Description
A technology of graphite chemical purification is set forth. The technology makes it possible to purify natural graphite concentrates (after initial floatation beneficiation) and synthetic (kish) graphite (after magnetic separation) with initial ash content of about 5-7% down to final ash content of 0.01-0.05% with a competitive price of the resulting product being provided.

Innovative aspect and main advantages
The novelty of the invention is related to the development of the graphite chemical purification method wherein the introduction of new operations and conditions of their implementation, application of novel reagents for this process provide a better purification of natural and synthetic graphite.
The major advantage of the introduced technology is the possibility of achieving low ash content 0.01-0.05% at a relatively low prime cost and development of a closed technological cycle.
Areas of Application
- Graphite as an electroconductive additive and active material for high-quality galvanic elements (cells) and rechargeable batteries, among other things as an active material for modern lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). This type of batteries has found a large-scale use in mobile phones, digital video- and photocameras, portable computers (laptops), calculators, videoplayers and other consumer electronics. In the near future we are likely to see a growth and large-scale application of large-sized LIBs (and consequently, growth and application of high-purity graphite) in such mass fields of application as electric cars and buses, railway transport, aviation, submarine and surface fleets, specialty vehicles;
- Graphite for the artificial diamonds production; as is known, high-purity grades of graphite change their crystalline structure under the influence of high temperatures and pressures turning into artificial diamonds that find an extensive use as cutting tools and abrasive materials;
- Graphite for nuclear power industry (for the production of graphite cores - neutron moderators in nuclear reactors);in view of prospective construction of two new nuclear power plants in Ukraine the production capacity of high-purity graphite will see a dramatic rise in the near future.
Stage of Development
- Prototype available for testing;
- Applied for Ukrainian Patent “Method of Graphite Chemical Purification”
