Single Crystals of Complex Chalcogenide and Halide Compounds for Optoelectronics and Non-Liniar Optics

Description

The single crystals of a series of new and previously known compounds are proposed; the growth technology is developed for industrial-size crystals suitable for the production of working elements of semiconductor devices.

For non-linear optics: AgGaGe3Se8, AgGaGeS4, Tl3PbCl5, Tl3PbBr5

For optoelectronics and acousto-optics: Cs2HgCl4, Cs2HgBr4, Cs2CdBr4, Cs2CdI4, Tl3PbCl5, Tl3PbBr5, CsPbCl3 etc.

All single crystals were grown by Bridgman-Stockbarger technique. Crystal diameter up to 30 mm, length up to 100 mm.

Facilities for the manufacture of optical elements are available.

Innovative Aspect and Main Advantages

AgGaGeS4 and AgGaGe3Se8 single crystals have improved properties compared to the compounds that are currently used in industry, particularly double the resistance to laser radiation (50 mW/cm2) compared to their analogs AgGaS2 and AgGaSe2 (20-25 mW/cm2), are radiation-resistant, have simpler growth technology (lower melting point, absence of a negative thermal expansion coefficient along one of the axes), higher double refraction.

Tl3PbCl5 and Tl3PbBr5 single crystals of such dimensions were grown for the first time; they are new materials for non-linear optics and are promising for acousto-optical applications.

Areas of Application

Non-linear optics (parametric light generators), acousto-optics (acousto-optical modulators), optoelectronics.
