Description

The technology (development) provides research and design of ID metamaterials. Among them: photonic crystals (PC) and left handed media (LHM) for gigahertz (GHz) band.
Main directions are:
1 - research of fundamental features of metamaterials;
2 - design of electronically controlled extra high frequency (EHF) passive elements, fabricated on the base of PC and LHM.

Innovative Aspect and Main Advantages

  • electronic (magnetic) control of the steepness, position, intensity of transmission coefficient;
  • high velocity of controlled parameters (more than 10-9 c-1)
  • possibility to perform the metamaterial with predicted values of positive and negative permittivity/permeability;
  • cheapness of manufacturing elements of PC and LHM.

Areas of Application

  • telecommunications of GHz and terahertz (THz) bands: design of electronically controlled:
    - polarization elements,
    - filters with tunable transmission zone shape,
    - routing devices,
    - resonator structures operating on surface waves for material parameter study;
  • EHF microscopy of GHz and THz band;
  • spintronics of EHF band.
