Sensor of moisture in oil products

Description

Sensor of moisture in oil products is based on the use of measurements of dielectric parameters of oil products.

Inductive and capacitive transducers are utilized and are placed at the probe with oil product and supplied by two generators G1 and G2. Presence of water content in an oil product leads to dielectric permittivity alteration and consequently to the generators frequencies variation. These changes are measured by two frequency meters FM1, FM2 and then preliminary processed in the unit of signal processing. To provide high accuracy (sensitivity) the special software was developed for outer PC, but internal indicator I is also used for regular measurements. The principle of operation is based on measurement of alteration of dielectric permittivity of oil product in the presence of water.

Sensor is performed in the form of telephone receiver which contains the built-in glass case for oil probe (at the left) and indicator for regular measurements (at the right).

Prototype tests showed the following parameters:

  • Moisture content, %  –––––––––––  ≤ 1
  • Accuracy,%  ––––––––––––––––––  ≤ 0.4
  • Temperature range, °C  ––––––––––  5-50
  • Mass, kg  ––––––––––––––––––––  ≤ 1

Innovative Aspect and Main Advantages

Innovation aspect based on simultaneous use of inductive and capacitive transducers, and also on development of the special algorithm for signal processing to provide highest accuracy. In the case of regular measurements outer software is not needed, all measurements can be realized using the built-in indicator.

Areas of Application

The sensor could be used in oil-production enterprises, oil-transfer and oil-processing enterprises, filling stations, etc.
