General Information

The Institute was founded in 1992. Its leading scientists are world renown and many have post-doctoral experience in international laboratories, including; Waseda University, Vienna University, Paris University, Saar-brucken University, etc.

Currently the scientific priorities of the Institute are:

  • Bio-optics
  • Optical tomography
  • Optical material characterization {including extreme conditions)
  • Optics of circular polarized waves
  • Optics and acoustics of phase transitions at high hydrostatic pressure
  • Optics of liquid crystals
  • Optical spectroscopy (Raman scattering, absorption spectroscopy)
  • Technology of crystal growth (including biocrystals)
  • Magneto-optics
  • Nonlinear and parametrical optics with accounting of spatial dispersion.

Focus and Expertise

The Institute is well equipped and has the necessary expertise to undertake collaborative research in many areas, including:

  • Comprehensive optical characterization including extreme conditions (low and high temperatures, ultraviolet and far infrared radiation, super-powerful laser radiation, ultra short laser pulses, high electric and magnetic fields etc.);
  • Optical goniometer and ellipsometer for main optical parameters investigation;
  • Equipment for acousto-optical investigation;
  • Interferometer and polarimeters for piezo-optical, electro-opticaI, piezo-gyrational and electro-gyrational effects;
  • Second harmonic generation equipment;
  • Imaging poiarimeterforthe optica! damage investigation and many others;
  • Different lasers including super powerful laser and laser with ultra short pulses;
  • Optical stress sensor field 3D-tomograph;
  • An automated imaging polarimeter for the optical damage investigation;
  • An automated optical microscope for study of dynamic processes;
  • An automated dilatometer with the sensitivity of displacement measurements 2 nm;
  • The creation of a magneto-optical facility for study high magnetic fields are original developments of the Institute.

Partnership Opportunities

The Institute has developed technologies and successfully grown crystals of the borate family (α-BaB204,β-BaB204, Li2B4O7 etc.). These crystals are widely used in nonlinear and parametrical optics. The isotope combinations of U2B4O7 and UB3O5 single crystals with increased radiation stability have been shown to work successfully in strong radiation conditions for dosimetry. The results of Institute scientific investigations have been published in more than 700 scientific papers, patents and books.

  • Biological crystal - lysozyme; A2BX4 single crystals (Cs2CdBr4, Cs2CdCl4);
  • Single crystals of langbeinites family.
