Scientific and Production Association “Physics-Sun” Physical Technical Institute

General Information

The Physical Technical Institute was established in 1943. The technical staff includes 5 Academicians, 17 Doctors of Science, and 35 PhDs. Unique scientific objects and manufacturing areas - solar polygon with pilot installations and experimental production area for photo-electronic energy converters.

Institute’s Focus

Institute’s areas of core competencies include the following:

  • Theory of solid state – nonlinear wave phenomena in condensed matter and nonlinear optical systems. New methods for analysis of dynamics and stability of structures in nonlinear and disordered materials;
  • High energy physics – fundamental laws of interactions of particles and nuclei in the range of accelerator energies and ultra-high energy cosmic rays;
  • Semiconductor physics – physical processes in semiconductor materials and structures, development of technologies for manufacturing of highly effective photo-converters, photo-receivers, and other high-precision sensors;
  • Solar energy conversion – physical bases of direct, thermodynamic and heat conversions of solar energy, development of high performance solar installations.

Valuable Technology Offerings

In the institute, being the leading organization in research and development on a problem of utilization of a solar energy, great scientific and technical potential is accumulated on transformation and use of a solar energy. There are following samples of the installations created in the institute and suggested for introduction to practice:

  • Photo-electric installation of 1000 W power;
  • Solar water-heating collector;
  • The water-elevating device working on a solar energy or fuel;
  • The pulsed irradiator of a concentrated sunlight;
  • Phototherapeutic installation;
  • The biogas installation processing one ton of waste in day;
  • Stirling engine for combined electric and heat supplies of autonomous consumers, etc.

Scientific Cooperation and Technology Transfer

The Institute has established strong collaborative research linkages with international laboratories and institutes:

  • University of New Mexico, USA;
  • University of Georgia, USA;
  • University of Illinois, USA;
  • Technical University of Denmark, USA;
  • Oak Ridge National Laboratory, USA etc.
