Institute of Microbiology

General Information

The Institute was established in 1965. Currently there are more than 150 employees working in 9 laboratories and one semiindustrial department. The technical staff includes 2 Academicians, 10 Professors and 50 scientists holding a Doctorate Degree. The Institute has proprietary technologies and number of preparations is produced commercially, such as “Yer Malhami” (stimulator of natural soil fertility), “FMGK” (growth regulator and disinfectant), “Biocrystal” (used for biocontrol of pests from Lepidoptera genus), “Fusarin” (vitamin-enriched fodder preparation used for animal production), “Bifidumbacterin”, “Lactobacterin”, “Orom”, etc.

Institute’s Focus

Institute’s areas of core competencies include the following:

  • Ecology, systematics, physiology, cytology and genetics of microorganisms spread in different natural ecosystems of Uzbekistan;
  • Physiology and biochemistry of microorganisms; biosynthesis of enzymes, proteins, vitamins, antibiotics and selection of strains-overproducers;
  • Decomposition of agricultural, industrial waste and toxic chemicals;
  • Bioconversion of vegetable raw waste products for production of high-protein forage;
  • Production of biosurfactants by hydrocarbon degrading microorganisms;
  • Bioremediation of oil contaminated ecosystems;
  • Creation and maintenance collection of practically valuable microorganisms cultures as well as the microorganisms of different taxonomic

Valuable Technology Offerings

  • Biological fertilizers and stimulants for agricultural crops and forages;
  • Ensilaging of agricultural and plant-breeding waste products;
  • Medical preparations for prevention and medical treatment of disbacteriosis, gastric-intestinal diseases, production of dairy products and enzymes;
  • Decomposers of agricultural and industrial waste from sewage;
  • Pickling treatment with biological mordant of agricultural seeds;
  • Study of extremophilic microflora of Uzbekistan for novel biotechnology applications.
