Description

The XRF method is widely used in ore mining and processing, varnish-and-paint industries, hydrometallurgy, chemical industry and ecological control as a rapid method for analytical determination of the micro components, monitoring and control of the quick technologic processes of production, to improve the quality of the product, to lower the formation of the defective goods, to reduce formation of the industrial waste and to improve the ecological situation in the industrial regions. The spectrometers are completed with sealed radioactive (Co-57, Fe-55, Cd-109) sources, which have a specified time of activity.

Capsule designed from metallic disk with diameter of 3.8 mm with deposited Co-57 which activity is of 10-50 μCi, the body of the capsule made of titanium, capsule titanium lid and welding seam. Capsules sealed hermetically by argon-arc welding.

Innovative Aspect and Main Advantages

Production of the sealed sources on base of Co-57 radionuclide allow us to provide mining and other industries with development and widely application of the x-ray radiometric method for quantitative definition of the element content of the different technological products.

Characteristics:

  • Source activity – 10-50 μCi;
  • Irradiation – gamma rays with energy of 122 keV;
  • Half -lifetime - 271 days;
  • Gamma-ray output – 95,6%;
  • Source durability - 3 years;
  • Radionuclides impurities content is no more than 0,2 %;
  • Height - 4 mm;
  • Diameter - 6 mm;

XRF-spectrometers produced by a world companies as Niton LLC, Canberra inc., Warrington inc., Spectro Analytical Instruments GmbH Co. KG, Bruker-Axsys, Brandt Instruments, Inc., Jordan Valley Inc. and used in the field of mining and processing, varnish-and-paint industries, hydrometallurgy, chemical industry and ecological control.



Stage of Development

Pilot production of 10 sealed Co-57 sources was carried out. Product is certified. Testing of the capsules containment and surface contamination has been developed.
