High Sensitive Magnetograph of Constant and Low Frequency Magnetic Field Measurements


The magnetograph includes one or several highly sensitive magnet field sensors, connection interface with portable desktop/laptop and uninterruptible power source for the computer, and power source for sensors. This set also contains all required cables. The desktop/laptop computer is supplied with all necessary application software, supported by the OS Windows-2000. The magnet field components are transformed to the constant output voltage. By using the analog-digital converter (ADC), this voltage is modified into the sequential code, which is transmitted via the 1-Wire interface to the COM port of the desktop/laptop computer. The software allows one-day measurement results accumulation as a file. It is also capable of visual monitoring of the results represented graphically. The magnetograph allows measurement of the magnet induction from values of 0.01 nTesla, and is one of the most sensitive devices of its class, which use sensors and does not require cooling to cryogenic temperatures. The maximal value of measured induction is 100000 nTesla. Depending on the task of monitoring, the magnetograph can be set so that it can provide either maximum sensitivity, or registration of higher values of magnet induction.

Data registration rate can be programmed, and averaged in one second interval and varies from one count per second to one count per 30 seconds. Data are continuously saved to the desktop/laptop computer. The current day file is continuously filled with data as they arrive, whereas those collected within previous days are saved to the hard disc of the desktop/ laptop computer. The recorded daily files can be copied to the portable storage device both on the next day, or within the same day, which does not interrupt the measurement process. The input power required for the magnetograph is formed from that of computer, and of 3...5 Watts required for each of the sensors. The cable connecting sensor(s) with desktop/laptop computer(s), depending on the task, can be 100 meters or more.

Innovative Aspect and Main Advantages

Advantages of given magnetograph in comparison with other types of high sensitive equipment of magnetic field are the following:

  • Has high (~0.01 nTesla) sensitivity;
  • In difference from proton magnetographs magnetic magnetographs allow to make highly precise measurements in inhomogeneous magnetic fields;
  • Possibility relatively simply to manufacture both undirected one-component magnetographs and vector two and three – component magnetographs;
  • Work at the ambient temperature;
  • Simplicity of the construction and exploitation;
  • Small size and weight.
