Use of Morphological Barriers of Agricultural Plants for Their Resistance to Whitefly (Aleurodidae)

Description

It has been studied the crop plants resistance to pests including whitefly that at present time in Uzbekistan is spread not only on the crop field but also in greenhouses. In the study of whitefly feeding, specialization its compensator survival ability on cotton it have been revealed the basic morphological factors that determine cotton plant resistance to the pest.

The plants’ anatomic-morphological barrier given with genetic differences of organs construction, tissues and cells play the important role in phytophages feeding on cotton plant of different varieties.

The filament of leafs and their forms greatly influence to occupying the cotton with the pests. For study of the morphological barrier the varieties of the cotton plants having different forms of leaf are being selected.

Innovative Aspect and Main Advantages

  • In the course of studies it will be developed and formed list of field and wood cultures occupied with whitefly;
  • Also varieties of whiteflies in Uzbekistan will be studied;
  • The logical model of cotton varieties resistant to the whitefly will be made and recommendations to the breeders will be given;
  • Sowing the varieties of cotton plants having determined characteristic, increasing their resistance to whitefly will reduce the use of chemical preparations against pests.

Areas of Application

  • Integrated Pest Management;
  • Plant selection and seeds breeding;
  • Plant immunity to the pest.

Stage of Development

  • The pests (whitefly) for laboratory studies have been collected;
  • The varieties of the cotton that planted in Uzbekistan have been selected;
  • Searching for partners for the further studies and cooperation.
